SAMPLING TECHNIQUES FOR SELECTING A SUITABLE SAMPLE FOR THE RESEARCH TOPIC

Title of Research
“Effect of teaching aspirated sounds of English language on the pronunciation of second language speakers in Pakistan”. To clarify sampling, Methodology is being discussed here.
Methodology
The current study will approach the quantitative methods as it is based on experimental design, which proposes to determine the data with the difference in performance based on pre and post test. Total sample size is of 144 students divided into two groups experimental and control, hence each groups is comprised of 72 students where the experimental group will receive the treatment and control group will not.
Population
For the generalizing purpose the current study will consider the male students of Lahore in public sector colleges, studying in graduation classes, where the age bracket is 19 to 22 years, as the normal passing age of graduation. For this purpose, three public sector colleges have been chosen and for further clarification the three colleges are selected from three factions of society: lower-middle, middle, and elite. There are three categories of subjects are normally offered in public sector colleges viz-a-viz science, arts and commerce, so they are called strata.
 Sampling
This is a research using experimental design and for the purpose of seeking a valid sample size from the given strata, the researcher will use stratified sampling in first layer. In which the names of students from every strata will be sought from the given strata of representative colleges. In second layer after making a unified list of each strata of given population, 48 students from each strata will be selected randomly hence total number of students are 144. In order to split them into control and experimental group systematic sampling where n=2 is used.
